Prevent Harassment, Build Inclusion

Learn the practical steps that will build and support diversity and inclusion in your hiring and workplace practices

Business owners often know they need to have a culture of inclusion in the workplace but don't know the practical steps to build inclusion -- the antithesis of discrimination and harassment.  This workshop is for those who feel stuck when trying to resolve employee 'he said/she said' situations, who find they are spending way too much time being the 'politically-correct' police, or who keep hearing comments like:

  • I didn't mean it.
  • She has no sense of humor
  • I'm just an affectionate person.
  • It was mutual...until I dumped him.
  • This is a witch hunt! What happened to 'innocent until proven guilty'?
  • I guess I should never tell another joke/give another hug/talk about anything personal/be friends outside of work with anyone again ever.
  • Hey, if I tell you something will you promise to keep it confidential? I don't want to get anyone fired/get retaliated against.
  • Our boss is so mean this has become a hostile working environment!
  • I don't even want any members of the opposite sex on my team.  Too much risk of getting accused of something, especially if they're attractive.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • how to recognize and address potential and actual workplace discrimination and harassment
  • why impact is more important than intent
  • the role the "reasonable person standard" plays
  • how to draw the line between humor and offense
  • the additional responsibilities managers must take seriously
  • how to quickly weed out complaints and begin appropriately addressing and investigating the real issues
  • #MeToo & Bystander Intervention: what to do if you experience or witness harassment, and how to avoid and prevent retaliation.

We will explore how to recognize behaviors that discourage diversity such as workplace bullying, stereotyping, the us-versus-them mentality and micro-aggressions -- the gateway to harassment, discrimination and time-consuming complaints.  Then we will develop an action plan of ways you can build and support diversity and inclusion in your hiring and workplace practices.
