Giving Back is GOOD for Business

Come join us for this FREE event sponsored by Manasota SCORE, Manatee County Public Library Information Services and Manatee County Economic Development Division.  Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Central Library.

Supporting the local community is not only the right thing to do, it’s also a savvy business move. According to Fortune, giving back by donating money to local non-profits, allowing employees to volunteer on work time, and otherwise operating with a spirit of generosity is correlated with higher rates of employee retention and satisfaction. In this session, the three panelists will discuss the importance of giving back to the community as part of a successful business model. Panelists are John Horne, owner of Anna Maria Oyster Bar and winner of National Restaurant Association Good Neighbor Award; Jacki Dezelski, president of Manatee Chamber of Commerce; and Trudy Moon, owner of Air & Energy.

Our Speakers:

John Horne is the CEO of the popular Anna Maria Oyster Bar with 4 locations, which he has owned for 20 years, as well as a member of State College of Florida’s Board of Trustees. He has won multiple awards recognizing his business and community leadership along with his wife Amanda, including the 2014-2015 USFSM Hospitality Leadership Award; 2015 Small Business of the Year from The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce; the 2017 Leadership Manatee Kent Schulz Award; and the 2018 National Restaurant Association’s Education Foundation Good Neighbor Award in recognition of their efforts at literacy programs to increase grade level reading.

Jacki Dezelski leads the Manatee Chamber of Commerce as its chief executive. She received her MBA and BFA degrees from the University of Florida and has been with the Chamber since 1996. Jacki was named the 2015 Florida Chamber Professional of the Year by Florida Association of Chamber Professionals and earned her IOM credential from the US Chamber of Commerce. Born a ’valley girl’ in California, Jacki has called Manatee County home since 1980 and hails from a long line of farmers who helped settle a little piece of the Michigan ’pinkie’ near Traverse City. She was recently featured in the May 2018 issue of SRQ Magazine.

Trudy Moon started her fulfilling career in commercial real estate in Toronto when she met her husband, Steward Moon, Senior. In 1991, they bought Air & Energy, which they've built from the ground up.  Supervising 45 employees, Trudy serves as President with her son Steward Jr. as Vice President.  Air & Energy services Manatee County where Trudy became heavily involved in the community hosting many fundraisers and events as well as serving on numerous boards and committees, including Saint Stephen's , South Florida Museum, Together Manatee, Human Society of Manatee County, the Horne and Moon Scholarship Fund, Manatee Chamber of Commerce, where she served as Chairman in 2016 and Blake Medical Center Board of Trustees. When she has a spare moment among her many duties, she enjoys spending time on her family's hobby farm in northwest Bradenton, where she has rescue dogs, horses, and chickens.
