Steve Domyan is a founding partner of MetroCrops, LLC. He built MetroCrops into the premier MicroGreens grower in New England. This business model has been used to duplicate the urban high density indoor farm throughout the northern United States. He learned about plant science from scientists at the USDA / ARS as part of MetroCrops’ USDA / NIFA research grants. He designed the grow lights and hydroponic equipment that MetroCrops now uses. Steve has a BS in Engineering and an MBA.

This session will be focused on how to launch an urban farming business using MetroCrops as example of what it took to be a successful urban indoor farm. Steve Domyan will share the path taken for MetroCrops from USDA research project to successful specialty indoor commercial grower and the lessons learned from a farming and business perspective.

  • What did not work commercially
  • What commercial outlets are available for small to medium size farms
  • What is required to be a successful commercial indoor grower
