Presenter: Diane Winston

Diane Winston is the CEO of Winston Strategic Partners, which provides communication strategies to firms facing change related to new processes, technology or organizational changes due to a merger or acquisition. Before establishing the firm, Diane spent 20 years in executive positions with Citibank before joining AXA Equitable as the Director of Communications for the IT Group.  Diane has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA from NYU. Diane is also an alumna of the Goldman Sachs – Tory Burch Foundation Small Business Program.

Presenter: Michael Klehm, Vice Chair SCORE

Michael Klehm brings a wide array of business leadership skills from over 30 years in the financial services industry.  Michael held many positions at GM Asset Management Corporation, from portfolio manager to President & COO, and co-led the start-up of the firm’s non-affiliated client business.  

Michael is currently Vice Chair and Business Mentor at SCORE Fairfield County, which provides free advice to anyone starting or growing a small business, via one-on-one counseling and an extensive workshop program.

Want to start a business but don't know where to begin? This workshop series, conducted by a team of professionals will give you the boost to get you on your way!

Thursday, September 6: Self-Assessment/Business Plan - Learn about the risk and reward of starting a business in today's competitive marketplace. The traits of successful entrepreneurs will be discussed for the purpose of assessing one'e innate and acquired ability to start and manage a successful business. The session will also focus on structuring a dynamic business plan.

Thursday, September 13: Marketing Strategy & Research - Learn the importance of market research and planning to start-up and build a competitive and successful business. Emphasis will be on sound market positioning of a small business's products or services within its target market that will enhance profitable sales and success.

Presenters for Session 2 are Bruce Bennett and Bob Zukowski

Thursday September 20: Website & Social Media Marketing - Learning how to execute successful marketing effort is the core of this presentation that will include interactive attendee worksheets. The use of online-based marketing tools, including website and social media, will be extensively discussed.

Thursday September 27: Financial Reporting & Planning - This presentation reviews a business's key financial statements and walks the participants through the development of a comprehensive financial plan. The importance of understanding the key financial drivers of the business will be a center-piece of the discussion.

Thursday October 4: Funding Sources/Conversation with Entrepreneurs - Learn about the funding structures required for start-up businesses today, including a presentation from lending sources specializing in start-up and small businesses. Includes discussion and Q&A with SCORE mentored, start-up business entrepreneurs.

Attendees are expected to attend all five sessions and those who attend at least four classes will be given a certificate of class completion.
