VISUAL PHONICS

MEG CECH, Certified Trainer

Visual Phonics is a multi-sensory approach that allows student to learn faster and with great accuracy by building skills and confidence.  The mouth movement for each phoneme or sound is represented by a hand gesture.  The hand signal is then reflected in the written symbol.  Students taught with this approach are able to use hand signs to cue themselves and teachers can use the signs and symbols to assist reading, speaking, and spelling skills.

Participants will learn and practice the gestures for each of the 46 phonemes of the English language during the course of the day, insuring proper form and memory association for next day implementation. Meg will also lead you on the exploration of the variety of ways Visual Phonics may be used to aid in encoding for all students, utilizing visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning, turning reluctant readers into independent readers. It is a day filled with active involvement and practice, resulting in educators feeling confident and understanding the importance of hand cues for learning in the classroom.
