AIA EKC Construction Tour-Bluegrass Stockyards 

AIA East KY is pleased to offer its members an opportunity for continuing education (1 AIA LU) in conjunction with a construction tour of the Bluegrass Stockyards.

During this tour, project architects from Nomi Design will discuss how the two distinct functions of stockyards and marketplace impacted the overall design. Programmatic spaces include markets, offices, museum, restaurant, education center, sales arena, yards, pen back and vet offices.

Learning objectives:

1. Explain and illustrate the specialized requirements for the design and construction of a new building typology that includes Stockyard as a Marketplace.
2. Describe the building systems required for the operation of the stockyards as it relates to safety and separation from the daily requirements of the marketplace.
3. Observe systems for building/site storm water retention and reuse.
4. Explain and observe how the building design distinguishes between public and private spaces
