Nonprofit Resource Development - San Jose State credit class(3) series

- Monday April 8 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (Grant Writing Workshop: Part 1)
- Monday April 22 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (Grant Writing and Fundraising Workshop: Part 2)
- 2 1/2 hours of homework required
“Nonprofit Resource Development Course” content 1 (One) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Provided by San Jose State. You must complete the following 3 classes (see above also) and will have 21/2 hours of homework.
The classes being offered 3 Mondays with homework and will enable nonprofit leaders, founders and staff to develop compliant grants and resources that can support the organization’s services and mission. The focus besides grants and the use of volunteers will cover resource planning and budgeting and how to develop funding strategies for your organization
This course is structured for those students/new leaders who want to start a nonprofit, work in the nonprofit world or who are working or volunteering in a nonprofit and want to sharpen their skills. The course focuses on resource development to sustain the nonprofit and meet the mission.
The course is a good opportunity to sharpen your skills and knowledge and to add to your resume. It will help in the grant application process as well, and will be an excellent plus for yourself and for your organization. This course can make a difference in your career and your nonprofit’s success.
The following classes comprise the course curriculum and can be taken as stand- alone classes:
1. March 25 Monday 9:30 AM-12:30 PM. (Success with Nonprofit Volunteers).Training will focus on developing volunteers for nonprofits. You will learn how to assess volunteer needs, consider innovated recruitment strategies. Training and evaluation and leadership development among volunteers will be key topics.
2. April 8 Monday 9:30 AM-12:00 PM. (Grant Writing Workshop: Part 1).Will provide training on grant writing. It includes how to leverage resources and collaborative services, locate grant funders, write and modify grants for new funders.
3. April 22 Monday 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. (Grant Writing II and Fundraising Workshop: Part 2). This class applies the grant writing class and explores how to write compelling needs statements, create measurable goals, complete a budget and build capacity for leveraged funding.
4. Don’t forget about the homework. Homework assignments may include completing a volunteer development plan after the first workshop and a grant template after the second.
You will receive 1 unit of continuing education credit for your study of “Nonprofit Resource Development” The courses are discounted as part of the continuing education credits and nonprofit certificate work.

Dr. Burke previously led the Santa Clara County Office of Education’s Parent Engagement Initiative that serves as a state model for best practices in parent engagement for culturally diverse families. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Southern California.
