This symposium aspires to bring together staff from dialysis facilities, transplant centers, organ procurement organizations (OPOs), and nephrology practices to discuss barriers to patients progressing through transplant evaluation to the waiting list. The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine are collaborating with Qsource ESRD Network Strategies: Heartland Kidney Network, which oversees the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) contract for Network 12 consisting of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri.
One of the quality improvement activities from the CENTERS for MEDICARE & MEDICAID SERVICES (CMS) for the networks this year is aimed at increasing the percent of prevalent dialysis patients on the waitlist. One of our goals is to help facilitate communication and understanding between the 2 “silos” of transplant and dialysis.
