The heart of the largest city in Litchfield County, Downtown Torrington is rich in history, industry, architecture, and arts & culture. The Naugatuck River drew people and industry to the area and today the community celebrates that rich heritage by forging a strong future.
Two areas of the downtown are on the National Register of Historic Places and the Torrington Historical Society is a great resource of the town's past. The downtown is also a designated Opportunity Zone and three state routes (8, 4 & 202) provide access to the downtown area.
Downtown Torrington is the arts & culture center for the Northwest Hills region. The Nutmeg Ballet Company trains its dancers in their downtown Conservatory, and performs in the Warner Theatre, a 1700-seat auditorium built in 1931 as a cinema by the Warner Brothers film studio. The Downtown also hosts KidsPlay, a children's museum, the Five Points Gallery Contemporary Arts Studio, as well as a multitude of restaurants and shops. The Main Street Marketplace hosts summer events that bring residents and visitors to beautiful Coe Memorial Park. There are exciting plans for the Naugatuck River Greenway and other downtown enhancements.
Come learn about the City’s development initiatives, hear from a panel of Executive Directors from Torrington’s major arts & culture venues, take a walking tour of the downtown, and network with others looking at investment opportunities in the downtown. Then join us for a light lunch at the brand new Sliders Grill & Bar just opening on Main Street next door to the Warner Theatre.
