Pro Action presents: 

Symposium on Resilience

Pro Action is celebrating Community Action Month!

Join us on May 29, 2019, from 9am-4pm at the Corning Community College main campus (Commons Building) for a Symposium on Resilience, as we welcome our keynote speaker and trainer: Laura Porter, of ACE Interface. Laura was a key contributor to the film Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope. 

Through the Symposium on Resilience, participants will gain a deeper understanding of NEAR Science as well as strategies for resilience and self-healing communities. In addition, they will discuss ideas for applying this learning in their sphere of influence, and hear about approaches to the use of the ACE questionnaire in service settings.

Agenda for the Day:

The morning session will be for all attendees:

• Keynote and Trainer Laura Porter
  • Introduction of NEAR Science (Neuroscience, Epigenetics, ACEs, Resilience): The Bundling of Scientific Discoveries that are Informing Big Changes in Policy, Practice, and Community Norms.
  • Resilience - Building Capabilities, Belonging, Community, Including Activity and Discussions.
    

The Afternoon breakout sessions will offer two tracks to choose from:

• Introductory track: (Sessions led by Pro Action Staff)
  
  • A screening of the film Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope
  • Group activity: Brain Architecture Game
  • Tools for Building Resilience: Your Journey Together and Baby Doll Circle Time
    
• Intermediate track: (Sessions led by Laura Porter)
  
  • Working with Families with a History of Adversity: Prevention and Response Strategies
    
  • Principles and Processes of Self-Healing Communities
  • Self-Healing Communities Discussions

Lunch will be provided.

Corning Community College will issue Certificate of Completion to participants.
