Raising Money — Crowdfunding, Angels and Other Sources (San Francisco)

Taught by SCORE counselors Hulya Koc and Don Weil

WorkShop Fee ($45)

Raising Money — Crowdfunding, Angels and Other Sources

Startups needing funding will learn how Crowdfunding sources and Angel networks operate. They fill the gap in start-up financing between “friends and family” who provide seed funding, and formal venture capital.

Learn about fundraising from seasoned angel investors: how you pitch your ideas, determine evaluation, prepare due diligence and negotiate terms.

 Topics include

  • how crowdfunding works
  • how to find and select the angels
  • developing the pitch
  • determining valuation (usually lots of questions on this topic)
  • preparing for due diligences
  • negotiating the term
Hulya Koc

HULYA KOC After 6 years in international banking, I left banking to start my first company—importing textiles and gift items into the United States. I went on to start a multi-site child care center, and an employment agency focused on the education field- national first of its kind. I directed and trained teams in the fields of recruitment, marketing, sales, operations and customer service. I later successfully sold each of these businesses.

Besides three for-profit companies, I also co-founded two non-profit organizations in the Bay Area which are successfully continuing their operations for the last 25 years!

Since 2005 I have been an active accredited angel investor as the member of Keiretsu Forum- the world's biggest angel investor platform. In September 2012, I co-founded the Istanbul Chapter of Keiretsu Forum whose members invested over $6 million in global start ups.

Don Weil

DON WEIL I was an angel investor (I invested in small startup companies). Before retiring, I owned and ran four foundries, producing aluminum castings mainly for high tech and medical industries. I also owned and ran a metals distribution center, a plumbing supply business and started a small engineering company. After retiring, I invested in and then ran the company that tows cars for the city of San Francisco.
