May 16 Presbytery Meeting

Please join the Presbytery of West Virginia for the May 16 Stated Presbytery Meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Morgantown. In addition to the afternoon's business, the morning's educational focus will be a worship planning event, where everyone present will participate in small groups responsible for planning various elements of the day's worship service. The service’s theme will be Pentecost, and we will be trusting the Spirit to inspire and guide us. Each group will have leaders prepared with resources, ideas, and options in order to guide the work to a timely conclusion. This is an opportunity for us to use our spiritual gifts, to learn about worship in a deeper way, and to work with new friends, building relationships across our presbytery.

SMALL GROUPS
Enter your choice on the registration form.

1. Music I – Choir: Practicing an anthem to be sung during worship.

2. Music II – Hymns & Sung Responses: Selecting the hymns (from a shortlist provided by the musicians) and the sung responses (introit, Gloria, doxology, etc.) and considering creative ways to teach and present them during worship.

3. Visuals: “Vesting” the space and creating visual elements for use during worship.

4. Liturgy I: Creating liturgies including the call to worship, confession and pardon, offertory invitation and prayer.

5. Liturgy II: Creating the communion liturgy (Invitation, Great Prayer, Prayer after Communion).

6. The Word: Developing a creative presentation of Acts 2.

7. Bible Study of Acts 2: An in-depth look at a familiar text.

8. Pentecost Offering & WV Interfaith Refugee Ministry: Learning about the PCUSA’s annual Pentecost offering and WVIRM, the recipient of the offering that will be received in worship.

Before the meeting, you are invited to watch the Overview of the Day: Highlights and What to Expect video, which will be posted on the presbytery website and emailed to participants no later than May 13. It is for all who would like to know more about the business of the day, but it is especially helpful for first-time attendees.

The Presbytery is now providing an opportunity to engage in mission at each Stated Presbytery Meeting, with each Presbytery Commissioner encouraged to bring an item designated by the host church to benefit one of its missions. For the May 16 Stated Presbytery Meeting, Morgantown First Presbyterian Church has requested travel-size toiletries to be used in its Warm Room, which welcomes housing insecure community members every Sunday

Please remember that the presbytery no longer prints meeting packets except upon request. The packet will be emailed to those who receive our newsletter and posted on the presbytery website on May 6; please either print a copy at home or download the packet in advance to view on your phone or tablet as WiFi will not be available at the church on the day of the meeting. If you wish to request a printed packet from the presbytery, please contact the office by May 13.

The lunch menu for the meeting is as follows: your choice of a regular sandwich (ham & swiss on croissant and turkey & swiss on baker's roll) or a vegetarian one (sliced cucumber, green peppers, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and banana pepper rings on ciabatta), assorted variety of chips, chocolate chip cookies and drinks (Coke, Diet Coke, lemonade, Nestea, Sprite, water).

The deadline for childcare and advance registration is May 6. It is important to register in advance so lunch will be prepared for you; if you miss this deadline, lunch may not be available. Ministers and churches who need to request an excused absence should contact the presbytery office directly at office@wvpresbytery.org or 304-744-7634.
