Issues in Children's Mental Health Series Conference

Children with ASD are at particular risk for developing mental health conditions. Attendees will learn hallmark differences in ASD that lead to an increased incidence of adverse and traumatic experiences, with the intent to help develop environments where these risks are minimized. Attendees will learn the most common mental health conditions in this population and how they may present differently. Finally, strategies to support children with ASD and mental health needs will be outlined.
Who Should Attend
Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.

Please Note:
Dr. Karen Weigle is a clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience working with people with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities and their families. She received her doctoral degree and PhD. from West Virginia University, and completed Residency at Michigan State University. She has extensive experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team and in several medical specialty clinics and has provided assessment and intervention services in a variety of contexts including in-home, school-based, clinic-based, agency-based, hospital-based, and community crisis response. Dr. Weigle has experience in training family practice and medical specialty residents, special educators, community-based services providers, families, Early Intervention Specialists, and laypersons. Dr. Weigle is the Associate Director for the Center for START Services at University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability, a national program designed to develop local crisis prevention and intervention services for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health concerns. She also is a founder of the Chattanooga Autism Center and provides outpatient assessment and therapy services there.
