Overview:   Anyone thinking about serving food and drink to the public, whether it’s a full-service restaurant or a small local coffee shop, needs to understand the basics of operating a successful establishment. This is a 3 hour course covering the basics of owning and operating a restaurant.

You will learn and discuss:

  • The basics of a successful restaurant opening
  • Location selection criteria and lease considerations
  • Marketing and advertising strategies
  • Menu planning and price
  • Managing expenses
  • Financing options
  • Working with partners and investors

Led by Industry Professional & SCORE Counselor Leland Dear.

 Leland Dear has more than 33 years of business experience, including 14 years owning and operating a group of six restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. He also frequently counsels SCORE restaurant clients. Leland has a BS from the School of Business, San Francisco State University, and has 19+ years Corporate Retail Management experience in addition to his restaurant background.
