Delta Studies Institute 2019 - 2020 (7200)

The Delta Studies Institute begins with a full day bus tour of the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta Region. Beginning at the Cross Channel Gates north of Walnut Grove, you will see various areas showing levee restoration, subsidence at Twichell Island, the Big Break Regional Park and Nature Center. On the  follow up date you will learn about and receive EEI and Delta Studies curriculum as well as implementation strategies.You will return in May to share projects.

  • Help your students and future citizens learn more about the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta 
  • Learn about EEI Curriculum
  • Teach Next Gen Science standards using curriculum that focuses on California’s most valuable resource
  • Hands-on activities and integrated lessons with literary links
  • Each unit, K - 8 and 9 - 12 grade level appropriate
  • Kits of materials available for checkout to Delta Studies teachers who have participated in the training.
  • $200 Stipend upon completion (please see below)
  • Upon completing all the program requirements one unit of credit available through Teachers College of San Joaquin (additional cost)

To complete the program:

  • Attend all three institute days
  • Use curriculum and knowledge acquired (EEI, Delta Studies Curriculum etc.), create a phenomenon based lesson connected to California state standards
  •  Create a  five minute presentation illustrating your learning from the workshops and the implementation of your lesson(s) for your students
To complete the program and qualify for one continuing education unit from Teacher's College of San Joaquin:

 In addition to completing all requirements for the Delta Institute program
  •   Create and implement the lesson sequence using the 5E lesson template.
  • fill out and submit the  5E lesson template one week prior to May 7, 2020
  • Create a five minute presentation illustrating the 5E lesson sequence implementation in the classroom
Stipend information:

A $200 stipend will be awarded upon completion of the program to the first 25 PAID registrants. All registrations  will be timestamped. Please pay with PayPal, credit card or check. The check should be made out to SJCOE and mailed to Delta Studies, STEM Programs, PO Box 213030, Stockton, CA 95213.
