August 24 Presbytery Meeting

Please join the Presbytery of West Virginia for the August 24 Stated Presbytery Meeting at Bluestone Camp & Retreat. In addition to the afternoon's business, the morning's educational focus will be a presentation by Jessica Lilly, host and co-producer of West Virginia Public Broadcasting's "Inside Appalachia." 

Before the meeting, you are invited to watch the Overview of the Day: Highlights and What to Expect video, which will be posted on the presbytery website and emailed to participants no later than August 20. It is for all who would like to know more about the business of the day, but it is especially helpful for first-time attendees.

The Presbytery is now providing an opportunity to engage in mission at each Stated Presbytery Meeting, with each Presbytery Commissioner encouraged to bring an item designated by the host church to benefit one of its missions. For the August 24 Stated Presbytery Meeting, Bluestone has requested toothbrushes, toothpaste and travel toothbrush holders/cap cases to be kept at the camp for summer campers who forget them. 

Please remember that the presbytery no longer prints meeting packets except upon request. The packet will be emailed to those who receive our newsletter and posted on the presbytery website on August 14; please either print a copy at home or download the packet in advance to view on your phone or tablet as WiFi will not be available at Bluestone on the day of the meeting. If you wish to request a printed packet from the presbytery, please contact the office by August 20.

The lunch menu for the meeting is as follows: grilled sandwiches (including a vegetarian option), pasta salad, cucumber salad and pie. There will be a higher cost for lunch at this meeting; it will be $10. Beginning with this meeting, we will offer advanced lunch payment through Paypal until Thursday, August 22; at the door, you must pay with cash or check made out to PWV.

Commissioners and their spouses are welcome to stay at Bluestone Friday night if they do not wish to drive both to and from the meeting on the same day. The cost for that, payable to Bluestone, is $26 per person for lodging and $11 per person for dinner, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Guests must bring their own linens/sleeping bag, towels and toiletries. Other suggested items are bug spray, a flashlight, a small extension cord and three-prong adapter for items you want to plug in, and a lawn chair for Friday night's campfire.

The deadline for childcare is Friday, August 9, and the deadline for advance registration is Friday, August 16. It is important to register in advance so lunch will be prepared for you; if you miss this deadline, lunch may not be available. Ministers and churches who need to request an excused absence should contact the presbytery office directly at office@wvpresbytery.org or 304-744-7634.
