Koetter Woodworking Plant Tour 

AIA East Kentucky is pleased to announce this FREE excursion to the Koetter Woodworking Plant Tour in Borden, Indiana! Observe cutting-edge technology in action and earn 5 AIA LU|HSW while enjoying transportation and lunch provided by our generous hosts at Congleton Lumber and Design Center. 

This program features a comprehensive, educational tour of the 800,000sf family-owned Koetter Woodworking manufacturing facility. Beginning with the kiln drying and rough mill operation, participants will learn about the importance of proper drying of raw materials used in the manufacture of millwork and doors. The tour will cover, in depth, all aspects of how wood moldings are manufactured, from drawing to finished product. Participants will see firsthand, how virtually 100% of the wood fiber is used during the production process. Learning objectives include: 

• Discuss the role of sustainable harvesting in the wood products industry
• Review the process and benefits of properly drying raw lumber
• Explain the features and benefits of stile & rail door construction and the types of wood fire rated doors.
