November 21 Presbytery Meeting

Please join the Presbytery of West Virginia for the November 21 Stated Presbytery Meeting at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church. In addition to the afternoon's business, the morning's educational focus will be a hands-on mission project, where everyone present will help assemble 18,000 - yes, EIGHTEEN THOUSAND - dry meals for Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable people, located in areas suffering from droughts or floods and in conflict zones and transitioning political situations, where food is often the most immediate need.

Rise Against Hunger provides everything needed for the project (including lovely hairnets) except the people; in addition to the commissioners and guests who will help assemble the meals, we are looking for some able-bodied volunteers to assist with set-up and reloading the truck. We will pay around $0.37 per meal with contributions from the Cents-Ability Offering, other grants, the morning offering, and any other willing contributor. If you or your congregation would like to contribute financially or you can help out at the event, please contact the PWV office at office@wvpresbytery.org or Amy Parker at aparker@vcpresby.org.

Before the meeting, you are invited to watch the Overview of the Day: Highlights and What to Expect video, which will be posted on the presbytery website and emailed to participants no later than Nov. 18. It is for all who would like to know more about the business of the day, but it is especially helpful for first-time attendees.

The Presbytery is now providing an opportunity to engage in mission at each Stated Presbytery Meeting, with each Presbytery Commissioner encouraged to bring an item designated by the host church to benefit one of its missions. For the November 21 Stated Presbytery Meeting, Teays Valley Presbyterian Church is requesting monetary donations to purchase much-needed items (including hygiene, cleaning and household products) for the new Branches Domestic Violence Shelter in Putnam County. A basket will be set up at lunch to collect these cash or check donations; checks should be made out to Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with Branches in the memo line.

Please remember that the presbytery no longer prints meeting packets except upon request. The packet will be emailed to those who receive our newsletter and posted on the presbytery website on Nov. 11; please either print a copy at home or download the packet in advance to view on your phone or tablet as WiFi will not be available at the church on the day of the meeting. If you wish to request a printed packet from the presbytery, please contact the office by Nov. 18.

The deadline for childcare, advance registration and the ability to pay online through PayPal is Nov. 14. It is important to register in advance so lunch - which for this meeting is soups and sandwiches, including a vegetarian option - will be prepared for you; if you miss this deadline, lunch may not be available. If you choose to pay for lunch at the door, you must pay with cash or a check made out to Teays Valley Presbyterian Church. Ministers and churches who need to request an excused absence should contact the presbytery office directly at office@wvpresbytery.org or 304-744-7634.

Register Now!You will receive a confirmation email after registering. If you do not receive one, your registration was not successful. In that case, please try again, and if it is still unsuccessful, contact the presbytery office at office@wvpresbytery.org or 304-744-7634 to register. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
