The Watertown Free Public Library is accessible via MBTA Bus routes 52, 57, 59, 70, 70A, 71, Express 502, and Express 504. It is less than a five minute walk to the library from the buses that arrive at Watertown Yard. Limited metered parking is available behind the library and on the street. The building is ADA accessible.

What is a public arts master plan? Who is leading this process? And how can I get involved?
A public arts master plan guides the commissioning, creation, selection, and ongoing care of public art in a region or city. A master plan document is typically created by local government actors and helps three broad types of stakeholders communicate with each other: artists, the commissioning agency (for example, a town’s Public Art Commission), and the publics who encounter the art.
Join the Town of Watertown’s Public Arts Master Plan Advisory Committee on January 9 for a workshop exploring how we can shape a public arts program that speaks to Watertown’s community values.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn about inspiring examples of public art programs both here in Massachusetts and around the country. You’ll also engage in small group discussions where you’ll have an opportunity to weigh on preliminary recommendations for how the Town of Watertown can manage and maintain a public arts program starting in 2020.
Whether you’re a new or lifelong resident, a student, a teacher, a local business owner, or an artist, your input is vital and will help inform the Town’s decisions about how the town’s public art program will be managed.
Every public arts master plan is different; anticipated outcomes for the Watertown plan include:
- Establishment of an appointed commission and guiding policies that provide a clearer public process for issuing calls for public art and making public art selection decisions
- Greater collaboration between town departments responsible for helping to install and maintain/protect public art in Watertown
- Sustainable funding for public art
- More public art in locations throughout town!
Here in Watertown, a resident-led Project Advisory Committee (including members of the ad-hoc Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee) is guiding this process and creating opportunities for public input from April to January 2019.
