Business Startup Basics

Overview:  This all-day introductory course covers the factors critical to successfully starting a new business.  It will aid you in making a go/no go decision and give you an overview of steps to follow if your decision is to proceed.

If you are already in business, it will continue your education to help you succeed.

You will learn and discuss:

  • What you need to start a new business, including an idea and skills
  • Critical success factors, including capital, experience and mentors
  • Myths and truths about starting a new business
  • What should be included in a business plan, and why it is important
  • Business structure, insurance and regulations
  • Your marketing plan
  • Use of social media
  • Financial planning, including forecasting and finding money

Led by SCORE professional Willis White with many years of business experience, with other expert instructors.

 Willis Whitehas extensive experience owning and managing small businesses and commercial real estate.  He has served on the boards of business development organizations and Chambers of Commerce.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering decree from Tennessee State University and a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
