“I would recommend this workshop to anyone starting a non-profit corporation”. “Very informative… provided excellent resources”. “Speakers were extremely knowledgeable and explained answers in a way that everyone could understand”. “Covered everything I thought it would, and more”.

Who should attend?

Individuals seriously considering starting their own nonprofit organization.
Prospective members of executive management (The Board of Directors, Executive Directors, CFOs, Controllers and Program Directors) and prospective contributors.

Overview

Getting a new nonprofit organization off to the right start can mean the difference between success and failure. Nonprofits are companies with different missions and obligations than for profits. Because of increased regulation of nonprofits, it is important that nonprofit managers understand the legal benefits and obligations of incorporation and tax-exemption.

This workshop, led by an expert on nonprofits, will take you step by step through a process of starting and running a successful nonprofit. It will delve into the business and legal aspects of launching a nonprofit, including legal obligations and differences in business approach.

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe the purposes of nonprofits, and the differences between nonprofit and for-profit businesses
  • Summarize how to incorporate, register, and gain tax-exempt status
  • Define the responsibilities of the governance of board members and officers
  • Initiate strategies for recruiting board members and volunteers
  • Begin planning for financial management and fundraising using the3 major sources of funding for nonprofits

Facilitator and Instructor:  Barbara Grumet

Barbara Grumet is a former nonprofit CEO, board member, founding board president, senior management employee, and volunteer for several nonprofits.  She is a SCORE New York City mentor.

Workshop Fees:  Online registration $59, walk-ins $69

There is a $10 discount on all Student and SEAP registrations
