QuickBooks......The Basics

 February 24th - Purdue University Global

Have you ever wondered what QuickBooks accounting software is all about?  Could it help keep your books in order?  Is it hard to use?  If you have these questions, then sign up for this workshop from SCORE East Central Iowa.  This class is for the beginner, but basic computer knowledge is required.  Familiarity with accounting terminology will help you get the most from this workshop.  Please.....seating for this workshop is limited......Only sign up if you plan to attend.  

Workshop summary:  This is a very basic, hands-on, introduction to QuickBooks brought to you by SCORE and Purdue University.  The training will be held in a computer lab on the Purdue University Global campus (formerly Kaplan University). 

What we will cover:                                                          Accountant

  • Setting preferences for a start-up business.
  • Setting up a Chart of Accounts.
  • Entering transactions, including: Paying expenses, Purchasing Items, Selling items
  • Reconciliation of the business checking account.
  • Reviewing reports generated in QuickBooks.
 Note:  This training is meant for people who want to experience QuickBooks or a computerized

accounting program before purchasing it, or are very new users of the program.   We will be using an example start-up company and enter transactions covering the points above.

A top-level overview, followed by class involvement in exercises and examples.  Each workshop is taught by an expert on the subject.  Open to the existing or aspiring small business public.

Your Instructor:  Dianne Martin

Dianne is a longtime SCORE Counselor and served as the chapter's Workshop Committee Chair.  Her Dianne Martinefforts have made the Eastern Iowa Chapter of SCORE achieve one of the highest workshop participation rates in the nation.  Dianne is a retired Professor in the Business and Accounting departments at Kaplan University.  She teaches entrepreneurial classes at Kirkwood Community College.  Prior to teaching at Kaplan, Dianne was a Loan specialist with the US Small Business Administration.
