ICCER Webinar: Software applications in support of caregiving to older adults

ICCER is pleased to present a webinar on June 11 with Dr. Eleni Stroulia, Ruby De Jesus, and Mehadi Sayed. This webinar will provide information on another way professional and family caregivers can use technology to better connect and provide care to those with dementia.

About the webinar: During this session, our speakers will describe three coordinated software applications that are being developed to be used to connect heath care aides and family caregivers of older adults with dementia. They will highlight the opportunity to use technology to better enhance the support and communication between formal and family caregivers, and develop better software that will help those facing challenges associated with dementia.

Dr. Eleni Stroulia is a Professor in the Department of Computing Science and the Director of the AI4Society Signature Area at the University of Alberta. From 2011-2016, she held the NSERC/AITF Industrial Research Chair on Service Systems Management, with IBM. Her research focuses on addressing real-world problems, adopting AI and machine-learning methods to support people in their tasks. Eleni's flagship project in the area of health care is the Smart Condo, which investigates the use of technology to support people to live independently longer. She is passionate about interdisciplinary work, and she has played leadership roles in numerous research networks, including the GRAND and AGE-WELL Networks of Centres of Excellence.

Ruby De Jesus is currently working as a software developer with the Software Services Research Lab at the University of Alberta, where she has worked on several projects including Vibrant Minds. Ruby has a BSc in both Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Alberta and is interested in working with research and developing software that mixes both her backgrounds.

Mehadi Sayed is the President and CEO of Clinisys EMR Inc. He founded Clinisys in 2011 with a vision of providing intelligent data solutions for the healthcare industry. The company provides health informatics solutions to Canadian and international clients. Clinisys has expanded into various health speciality verticals including Electronic Medical Records, Health Data Analytics solutions, and the development of sensor-based medical devices. Before starting Clinisys, Mehadi worked with post-secondary institutions and in the private sector handling ICT projects for leading North American companies. Mehadi has been an active proponent of collaborative research and advocates public-private partnerships.
