In the school year that began fall of 1968 and ended in early June 1969, Larry was in his third grade of elementary school. That school year was highlighted by two Apollo missions which led up to Apollo 11 during his summer vacation, in July 1969. 20 years fast foward, Larry decided to apply to NASA for an astronaut postion to fulfill his childhood dreams. Unfotunately, he didn't make the cut... 

According to Larry, "Being rejected by NASA was my “greatest failure” But I let them know that it was ‘great’ because I tried for greatness. I tried to make it into one of the most elite programs in the world. I tried to be part of a team of engineers and scientists who would and could literally change the course of humanity. I tried greatly, and I’ve never once regretted it. "
