Through a partnership between the Nashville Bar Association and Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services, volunteer attorneys are providing small business owners with free legal advice through a phone based legal clinic. You can schedule a telephone appointment by answering questions on the intake form for a free 30-minute legal coaching session with a business attorney. These questions will help us match you with the right legal coach. Your completed forms will be kept confidential.

How our service works. Our volunteer attorneys have agreed to provide free legal advice in a 30 minute coaching call. Attorneys can provide legal advice on the following issues:

  • Debt - Insolvency, rent abatement
  • SBA Loans - EIDL loans, Paycheck Protection Program
  • COVID-19 Employment - CARES Act, unemployment, benefit
Our program rules do not allow attorneys to do more extended work, including preparing documents or longer term free legal representation. This type of legal help is called limited-scope representation, meaning the attorney-client relationship exists during the call and confidientiality continues, but more in depth legal services are not provided. Our phone based legal clinic process model requires volunteer attorneys to place appointment calls from a blocked caller ID number as part of our limited scope clinic. You indicate your consent to our program rules by:
  • Submitting your intake form
  • Receiving an automated email confirmation indicating the appointment time for a phone meeting (up to 30 minutes) with a volunteer business attorney and
  • Responding to TALS’ 3 question survey to give us feedback about your experience with the clinic. This will help us improve our volunteer experience during these uncertain times.
