Finding the Money: Financing for Startups

Virtually all small businesses will benefit or need outside funding at some point. The amount of hurdles to overcome can be just as overwhelming as the amount of channels to find the needed funds. We will discuss the different types of funding & business purpose they serve. If you want to know where to look for unclaimed funds this is for you!

Topics covered during the presentation:

I need startup or expansion funds where can I get it?
My bank says I am not qualified for a loan, now what?
I need some reserves to cover cash shortage, how do I handle that?
I need to buy products or pay staff before my customer pays, how can I do that?
Is my credit card a good source of operating money?

This program will start with a presentation to cover the basics of sources of funding and the qualifications for each. We will discuss the proper use of the funds, operating expenses versus capital expenses along with the topics mentioned above.

Supporting the presentation we will have a panel of finance experts to address as many questions as time permits on this topic.

About The Presenters

Curtis Sprinstead

Curtis Springstead is a Certified Mentor for the SCORE Northeast NJ Chapter. The bulk of his career has been as a strategic IT consultant, designing and implementing major business change and the supporting technology at a variety of clients including Bristol-Myers Squibb, Bank of New York, Prudential, Honeywell, TD Ameritrade, Optimum, and Liberty Travel. He also has served on a number of diverse non-profit boards in many roles and mentors non-profit clients for SCORE.

Ben Chapman

Ben Chapman is a Certified Mentor for the SCORE Northeast NJ Chapter. The first part of his career was as a tax partner in a large CPA firm. He then served as the tax director for an insurance company. He continues to serve on a number of diverse non-profit boards in a financial capacity.

Henry Cruz

Henry Cruz has been a Certified Mentor with SCORE since 2012. Prior to joining SCORE, he held a variety of roles in Commercial Lending with Citigroup, AT&T, and GE Capital.
