As architecture billings continue a precipitous decline and we anticipate an impending recession, it is important for architects to be equipped with knowledge about their payment assurance rights. Unfortunately, many architects do not fully understand their lien rights. This course has been developed by the AIA Small Firm Exchange (SFx) to focus specifically on lien rights for architects who practice in the state of Kentucky and aims to raise awareness of how both Kentucky statutes and AIA contract documents can be leveraged to support their rights to be paid in a timely manner.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Christopher Toddy, AIA - Chris is the President of Christopher @ Architects LLC in Cleveland, OH, the Co-Chair of the AIA Ohio Lien Rights Taskforce, and our active regional representative on AIA National's Small Firm Exchange (SFx). He has presented on the topic of lien rights for several chapters throughout the AIA and also presented this course at the A'17 National Conference on Architecture.
Darren J. Duzyk - Darren is a construction lawyer, construction arbitrator and construction mediator located in Lexington, KY and practicing primarily in the southeastern region of the US. He is a graduate of the University of Richmond School of Business and School of Law and is barred in Kentucky and Virginia. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s panel of Construction Neutrals and the Dispute Review Board Foundation’s panel of Neutrals.
John W. Hays - John is a member at Jackson Kelly PLLC and has practiced law for the past 30 years in Lexington since his graduation from the University of Kentucky College of Law. John’s main goal in his practice is to help people solve problems, whether in his role as an attorney, mediator, and arbitrator. His practice is primarily focused on construction litigation, contracts, and commercial litigation, and his years of experience mean he can help clients at any stage of a construction project or dispute. John is on Jackson Kelly’s Executive Committee and is also the co-chair of the Firm’s construction and development industry group.
