ONLINE: Business Modeling (How & Why) - 7/18/2020 (9AM to Noon) - C0072

This will be an ONLINE workshop via Zoom.

Learn how to visualize your Business Model on a single canvas. Your Business Model can be used to: evaluate whether or not an idea can be turned into a successful business, generate an investor pitch, gather and outline information needed for a formal Business Plan, and/or manage your existing business through internal and external changes.

You will learn about the nine building blocks of a business model and their interrelationships. First, we discuss your Value Proposition (products and services as viewed through your customers’ eyes) and the Customer Segments you will be serving. Then we consider the Channels you use to reach your customers and how you develop strong Customer Relationships. Next we examine at the Key ActivitiesResources, and Partners needed to create and deliver your value proposition. Finally, we look at what makes up your Cost Structure and potential Revenue Streams.

We use the standard business model canvas format taught in many business schools. You will create the first draft of your model in this workshop. You can then transfer this draft to a poster, white board, or computer/tablet template. This is a dynamic, ever-changing model that you continually modify as your customer needs, competition, and internal capabilities change.

Instructor: Sandy DeWald

Sandy is an expert in bringing new products to market.  With 20 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, she has developed and launched hundreds of new products into multiple market segments.  Key areas of expertise involve the entire lifecycle of new product development including market research and idea validation; developing product specifications, features and benefits; and effectively launching new products into the market.  She loves collaborating with others on the “messy front end” to figure out if this is the right product, at the right price, for the right person.  She brings those skills and insights into the classroom as an instructor by helping attendees clarify, validate and define their business ideas.  As a lifelong learner, she has a BS in English/Biology from the University of South Carolina and an MBA from Union University and is excited to share what she’s learned in both the academic and real-world business settings to help new entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life.
