Summary:
Participants will learn and/or review the definition of trauma, the difference between shock trauma and developmental trauma, symptoms of trauma including re-experiencing, avoidance and hyper-arousal symptoms, and distressing reactions to trauma including strong negative emotions, relationship difficulties, substance abuse and unintentional re-traumatization. Participants will also be given an overview as to how the brain and its various parts react to trauma and how the brain processes trauma.

Participants will receive a workbook after the webinar, which they can use for themselves and/or with clients. The workbook and the presentation will include interventions, which are useful for those who have been exposed to trauma and abuse including breathing exercises, grounding exercises, visualization and mindfulness exercises, somatic healing techniques, journaling and activities to promote healing.

Presenter: 

Gary Rukin is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2008. For the past decade, Gary has worked at Thresholds in McHenry County as the Intake Coordinator.
