Excel Formulas — They Can Do More than Just Math

Formulas are the essence of Excel. They can take large quantities of data — numbers, dates, text, times — and combine them however we want, anything from the simplest 2+2=4 to formulas on the frontiers of science and financial engineering.

While the jargon can be intimidating, Excel formulas are really easy to write once youknow a few common sense rules and some tips to avoid errors.

This program willdemonstrate and explain them, covering:

  • What Excel formulas can do, which may be more than you think;
  • Formula syntax, including what’s required and what’s optional;
  • The difference between Excel formulas and functions;
  • Tips for entering formulas accurately and making sure they’re correct beforeusing them;
  • How to copy a formula from one cell to many;
  • When you need to use absolute cell references to make copied formulas correct,and how to write them;
  • How to use simple functions like SUM and COUNT in formulas;
  • Tips for avoiding errors and locating them when they occur.

There will be plenty of time for questions, so come prepared.

Presented By: This program will be presented by Gerald A. Rosenthal ofComputerImages. He focuses on using computers to help people work smarter andbetter. Jerry has been using Excel since the program debuted as Macintosh-onlysoftware in 1985.
