William James College's Black Mental Health Graduate Academy, in the Center for Multicultural & Global Mental Health, is honored to host a virtual fireside chat with Dr. Shani Dowd. Dr. Dowd, a William James College Board of Trustee member, is a licensed Social Worker who served as Director of Culture InSight, an operating program of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation.
In celebration of Black History Month, please join us for a candid conversation with Dr. Dowd about the Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity. Dr. Dowd is an expert in culturally informed health care systems, health disparities and the needs of communities of color and LGBTQ communities. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine. For the past forty years, Dr. Dowd has also been an instructor and supervisor with Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology, the American Psychologist Association's oldest pre-doctoral internship program focused on training psychologists to work with underserved populations. Dr. Dowd is the 2017 recipient of the Massachusetts Public Health Association’s Lemuel Shattuck Award for contributions to the field of public health.
