Celebrating Black History Month

Join us for a Virtual Book Party with Dr. Joan Wallace-Benjamin

Dr. Joan Wallace-Benjamin, advocate, analyst, leader, mother, and author of the recently released “Leading a Life in Balance: Principles of Leadership from the Executive Suite to the Family Table,” will join William James College for a Virtual Book Party in celebration of Black History Month. The book is a collection of essays told through Joan’s own experience as an African American woman running high-profile organizations while balancing family life. The book also explores the influences of heritage, family, school, and community on individual success. The William James College Community is invited to join Joan for a Virtual Book Party exploring these themes, with time to ask questions of and talk with the author.

Joan, who has received numerous awards and recognitions, including an honorary degree from William James College, served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Home for Little Wanderers; President and Chief Executive Officer of The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts; Director of Operations for Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston; Deputy Director of ABCD Head Start; and Chief of Staff for Governor Deval Patrick. Joan has brought to her positions a remarkable array of skills and energy that have empowered and inspired the organizations to fulfill their missions of service, research, and advocacy. She graduated from Wellesley College with a BA in Psychology and received her Ph.D. from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

This event is hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Workforce Initiatives & Specialty Training, in collaboration with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office, the Council for Inclusive Excellence, the Center for Multicultural & Global Mental Health, and the Organizational & Leadership Psychology Department.
