Sexual Violence in Tribal Communities

4 out of 5 Native women have experienced violence - 56% of that being sexual violence. In New Mexico, Native women and children experience sexual violence at some of the highest rates.

This training will provide basic information sexual violence in tribal communities. The target audience includes direct service providers, case managers, and advocates. The training will focus on the following areas:

  • Basic understanding of sexual violence as a tool of oppression
  • An overview of victim rights and laws, including federal and state laws
  • Introduction to understanding cultural humility when working with Native survivors
  • Explore strategies for improving response and coordination among tribal, state, and federal service agencies

This training is very foundational and will share basic statistics and definitions. We will host more advance sexual violence trainings in the fall.

Tentative agenda will be coming soon.
