Society has experienced more change in the way we converse, relate, and communicate in the past year than ever before. The global pandemic has brought about an immense amount of loss and created a dichotomous atmosphere where science has either been placed on a pedestal or questioned, thrusting us into what the World Health Organization has named an infodemic. Despite the struggles we have all experienced, there have also been great areas of societal growth and major strides made related to science communication. Dr. Lamm will discuss how the scientific community can capitalize on this moment in time by bouncing forward--showcasing ways to be strategic and proactive as we communicate about science improving food security, food distribution, food safety, agricultural technological advancements, and environmental sustainability.
The Borlaug CAST Communication Award is presented annually by CAST for outstanding achievement by a scientist, engineer, technologist, or other professional working in the agricultural, environmental, or food sectors in contributing to the advancement of science in the public policy arena.
