Virtual CWRA Fall 2021 Conference

Saturday, November 6, 2021

2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Speakers:

Dr. Erica Miller & Dr. Renée Schott

The Connecticut Wildlife Rehabilitators Association is going remote for our usual Fall gathering! Please join us for an afternoon of presentations and discussions.

It's FREE!

Speaker: Dr. Erica Miller

Topic: Parasite Problems: Identification and Treatment

All wildlife may be affected by parasites, some of which may have a negative impact on the host animals. The emphasis of this presentation is the identification of both internal and external parasites commonly seen in native wildlife in North America, the effects these parasites may or may not have, and some treatments that are commonly used to reduce those effects or remove the parasites. Attendees will also get a sneak preview of a new NWRA publication to help with parasites in (and on) their patients.

About Dr. Erica Miller:

Dr. Miller has been a full-time wildlife veterinarian and rehabilitator for 25 years and  been on staff at three veterinary schools. She now splits her time as chief veterinarian at the Brandywine Zoo in Delaware; wildlife veterinarian for the New Jersey’s Office of Fish and Wildlife Health and Forensics; associate professor in wildlife medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine; and volunteer at Mercer County Wildlife Center and Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research. She is currently the Field Operations Manager for the Wildlife Futures Program, a collaborative effort between the PGC and the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Miller also serves on the Endangered and Non-game Species Advisory Committee to the NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife, the NJ Wildlife Rehabilitators Advisory Committee, the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Oiled Wildlife Care Network, the Delaware Kestrel Program, the veterinary team for Project SNOWstorm, and as a response veterinarian for Delaware Animal Rescue. Many of us know Dr Miller from the multitude of workshops and lectures she’s given at the National WildlifeRehabilitators Association conference, and for her many years with Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research.

Speaker: Renée Schott

Topic: The Abnormal Brain: Treating Neurologic Cottontails and Grey Squirrels

Adult cottontails and grey squirrels often present with abnormal neurologic signs such as head tilt, circling, ataxia, etc.  This presentation will cover the shortened neurologic exam in these species, briefly discuss the differential diagnoses for these clinical signs and finally prognosis based on data from a large wildlife rehabilitation hospital.
