PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program is applicable and specifically designed for initial workplace safety committee training. To introduce workplace safety committee members (management and employees) to the requirements of ACT 34 for purposes of Workers' Compensation policy credits and cost reductions. To enable the creation and maintenance of workplace safety committees which promote the reduction of injury and illness.
OBJECTIVES
After viewing this presentation individuals will be able to:
- Access HandS website to make initial application and for annual recertification
- Understand that the Technical Manual in HandS provides formats which can be adopted to develop their administrative program
- Discuss, describe and understand the information included in the training segments contained in ACT 34 requirements and specific contents for inclusion in the training program:
- Role and functionality of a Workplace Safety Committee
- Basic hazard detection and inspection methods
- Understand and apply basic accident and incident investigation techniques, and
- Gain basic awareness of how drug, alcohol and opioid substance use disorder impacts the workplace
- Understand how to best achieve a successful workplace safety committee
- Create and implement an in-house program toward the goals designated to help prevent incident and illnesses in the workplace
- Understand workplace safety committee structure, pitfalls, requisite authority, duties and responsibilities
- Differentiate between unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and remedial actions
- Determine "root cause" for accidents and incidents
- Understand how to access the PA Training for Health & Safety (PATHS) system to obtain free training materials, PowerPoints, videos and toolbox talks
All committee members can participate in the webinar session in the same training room if you have a computer, projector and screen, internet connection and telephone. However, committee members can also participate from their own individual work stations, if they choose.
