This training provides a data-based summary of the current fentanyl epidemic affecting the pacific northwest, as well as an introduction to new designer sedatives and other atypical drugs of abuse circulating the area. Current clinical practices utilizing evidence-based medication assisted treatment approaches in the setting of an opiate treatment program, as well as physiologic challenges to usual detoxification practices these new drugs create will be reviewed.
Learner Objectives
1. Identify new drugs of abuse in the pacific northwest and their unique risks to patient health.
2. Understand the unique challenges of the pharmacology of these substances as it relates to detoxification and treatment.
3. Apply modified current evidence based treatment techniques to substance use disorders involving these substances.
