Happenchance: Alfonso Carrara's World War II photos

Alfonso Carrara, a translator, scout and interrogator for the American Fifth Army during the Second World War, entered Italian villages armed only with a camera as the last remnants of the German army were fleeing. From ravaged faces and panoramas to the last photos ever taken of Mussolini, his photos captured a pivotal moment in history.
