A Place of Hope for the Desperate Irish: Baltimore’s Coffin Ships, Orphan Boys and Lazaretto Point

Luke McCusker will present the arrival experiences of starving Irish in Black ’47, and the people who received them. The role of early Irish Baltimoreans, as well as civil and religious leaders who provided comfort and care, will be explored. Their efforts led to the establishment of a parish that began as a home for orphan boys of the Great Hunger
