2019-2020 Hawai'i Common Core Item Authoring Training

* Required information

  • Participating educators will learn how to author English language arts/literacy (ELA/L) and mathematics items (i.e., test questions) for grades 3 through 8 and high school. This training will be focused on fundamental item authoring skills; therefore, it is intended for educators with minimal or no prior item authoring experience or those interested in improving item authoring skills by collaborating with novice item writers.

  • Qualified educators include certified elementary, middle, or high school teachers, preferably with content degrees in ELA, mathematics, or a closely related field for which they apply. Participants must have expertise and a deep understanding of the Hawaiʻi Common Core Standards for the grade level(s) taught.

  • Participants are encouraged to attend all three workshops (summer, fall, and spring) in order to complete the process of becoming a certified Item Author. Please refer to the training memo for specific dates and times.
