2019 Application for Working with Students with Autism for General and Special Educators

In this institute we will examine the neurological, cognitive, social/emotional, sensory, behavioral, and communication characteristics of students with ASD, and the impact on students’ learning and functioning throughout the school setting. Applications are due by July 2, 2019. You will be notified of your acceptance by July 8, 2019.

  • This institute is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and is offered at no charge to educators except if participants choose the graduate credits. 3 Graduate credits from Fitchburg state for this program which will cost about $295 for all 3 credits.

  • Additional Required Time Commitments (PLEASE READ) Final Presentations will be held during the school year. The dates correspond to your chosen session. Session 1 @ UMASS Boston on Wednesday, December 4, 2020 Session 2 @ Worcester State on Wednesday, January 8, 2019 A conference date is required for this program as the hours are part of your PDPs or Graduate Credits. You must choose one: “Assistive Technology: Reading and Writing Tools for Educators” with Karen Waddill on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 9:30-4:30 at Rhode Island College. or AANE's Annual Connections Conference With Keynote Speaker Becca Lory on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 9:00am-4:30pm at Boston University Online Requirements: Participants will also engage in an online discussion forum via Google Classroom where they will be expected to post assignments and contribute to the online community on a monthly basis. Participants will need to have a personal gmail account for the purposes of this class.

  • SPECIAL NOTE: In order to attend this institute and receive the 3 graduate credits or 67.5 PDPs, Participants must attend all dates and follow up sessions of the Institute, complete a pre-test, a post-test, and a survey of the Institute content, and complete all Institute projects and assignments. No partial credits will be given.
