Join us on April 4th for an incredible day with top editors, agents, authors & illustrators in the children's/YA publishing world. Our spring conference is an excellent opportunity for IPOC writers & illustrators to learn, get inspired and network with others in the industry. Kweli20, co-sponsored & hosted by Barnard Center for Research on Women.

    Please note that this conference is EXCLUSIVELY for Indigenous and POC writers and illustrators. Race is a social construct. However, Kweli must provide details about the make-up of our audiences to our grant funders. Please check your "race" / ethnic group. Multiple answers allowed.

Important Information

  • Books for all of our participating authors, editors and illustrators will be available for sale and signing on Saturday, April 4th at Barnard College.

  • For an additional fee of $45, you can participate in a manuscript critique or portfolio review. Please select three (3) names below. You will be able to rank them by preference. NOTE: Your manuscript for the critique session must be sent via email to editors@kwelijournal.org by Sunday, March 1st, 11:59 pm. You can submit a full picture-book manuscript OR the first 10 DOUBLE-SPACED pages plus a one-page synopsis of a middle grade or young adult novel.

Master Class Fee

We are offering four Master Classes on Friday, April 3, 2020: Ruthless Revision with Linda Sue Park (Middle Grade Novel); Writing Home with Ibi Zoboi (Young Adult Novel); The Woven Verse: How to Craft a Novel-in-Verse with Aida Salazar; and Collage with Vanessa Brantley Newton (Picture Book). These workshops are limited to 20 - 25 students. First come, first served. The Master Classes will be held at Barnard College.
