Legislator Information

  • What times are you available to participate in advocacy meetings with legislators? If your availability changes, please send updates to sfontaine@namivirginia.org so we can include you in one of our scheduled meetings.

  • We ask that you plan to attend Advocacy Day from 7:30 am - 12:30 pm. Participants will not be in meetings the entire time, but your availability will allow us to fill you into the meetings we have with key committee legislators . In addition, during the time not in scheduled meetings, we hope you will drop by your personal senator and delegate office to say hello on behalf of mental health, providing them talking points, signing the guest book and even calling to leave a mental health supportive message. All these steps make a difference! Legislators will go into session at 1130 so after a quick celebratory picture at the Capital, we will have groups head into the galleries to observe the legislators in action and be recognized in each chamber by a representative.

  • What is your level of experience as an advocate? (We welcome advocates with any experience level!)

  • How do you identify? Check all that apply. (Optional).

  • Would you like to help by being an Advocacy Day Leader? An Advocacy Day Leader is someone who will help a small group of mental health advocates (2-6 people) who are new to the General Assembly. Advocacy Day Leaders will take the group to visit their legislators and help navigate the General Assembly Building. Training will be provided for Advocacy Day Leaders! If you've been to Advocacy Day before, your help is needed!

  • Advocacy Day always involves a bit of walking. Please know that if you attend the full day, you will be walking about 3 miles total. All areas are handicapped accessible. Please acknowledge you have read and understand the level of physical activity expected at this event.
