The 1930s Dust Bowl in the Southern Plains was the worst man-made ecological disaster to occur on this continent. We’ll examine the farming practices that led to the Dust Bowl, discuss the government’s response, and listen to the stories of the extraordinary survivors. We will also revisit the return of the 1950s dust bowl, which though shorter and covering a smaller area, was no less fierce than the 1930s. Then we’ll ask the question: Could it happen again?
