Gardening Classes at Hope Farms

Join in celebration of our interconnected heritage--from America's Indigenous People to today's multi-cultural melting pot, and the gardening practices that they each brought to the party, as we learn to build our soil, interweave pollinator plants and grow our own food in sync with the rhythm of the seasons .

A Pollinator Party in honor of Indigenous People Day. Lets learn to work with Mother Nature as we plant a pollinator garden to support butterflies, bees and birds in sync with the rhythm of the seasons and wildlife's migratory patterns and understand how they all work together to generate our food. We will harvest, taste and plant edible flowers and herbs. (Children 7-12 may attend alone and parents are encouraged to accompany their 5 & 6 year old children.)

Fall is one of the most bountiful seasons in Houston. Learn how to inter-plant food crops for maximum production in small spaces and how to incorporate companion planting to deter insects and disease. We will harvest, taste and plant in this hands-on class.

Throughout history, feast days–when we welcome family, friends and strangers to the table, have been aligned with the harvest. We will explore how the Indigenous People of North America and new arrivals from Europe brought their own food traditions to that long ago fall harvest feast and understand how that early intermingling of foodways formed the bedrock for how we eat. In the garden, we will discover the food of hospitality as reflected in the diverse cultures that make up Houston today.

We will harvest, taste and plant in this hands-on class.

We will harvest, taste and plant a new garden of leafy greens and herbs. Children 7-12 may attend alone and parents are encouraged to accompany their 5 & 6 year old children.)
