SOC Workshop - So You Want To Be An A Camera Operator (Hint: It’s more than just pan, tilt, invoice)

A member led Q&A about the process and mentality required to be a top notch “A” Camera Operator. This live in person session is limited to thirty members in good standing in all SOC membership categories. Each attendee will be required, upon sign up, to submit 5 questions pertaining to the job of an A camera operator.

* Required information

  • The panel of instructors will guide the conversation based on these questions and candidly address and discuss these issues that are most pressing for those in attendance. Possible topics may include but are not limited to:

  • ● What do you do when the director and the DP are asking for different things?

  • ● What do you do when an AD is pushing you at every moment?

  • ● How do you deal with method actors who may not want to hear from you?

  • ● What part does the A camera operator play in run the set?

  • In section two of the workshop, attendees will move into smaller groups and work one on one with each of the instructors. This section is designed for a deeper dive into challenges and topics in a more personal setting. Each group of 6 will spend 15 minutes with each instructor asking any questions they would like in a “speed mentoring” style. After 15 minutes, the groups will rotate so they can ask questions of the next instructor.

  • Please arrive at 10:30am, 30 minutes prior to the start of the workshop to check in. Coffee, drinks, and snacks will be offered. It is recommended that you arrive having had a large breakfast as we will not be taking a formal lunch break. You are more than welcome to bring your own food.

  • This will be an interactive workshop and we highly recommend that you include questions in your registration.

  • There will be open parking in front of the SONY DMPC facility.

  • By registering for the workshop, you are giving the SOC consent to be photographed.

  • See you on June 4th.
