MCFB and MWI are partnering on MENDO MIXER events geared towards our wine industry community. Each mixer has an educational component, networking and tasty refreshments. This mixer will have PG&E representatives speaking on de-energization and wildfire safety focusing on agricultural impacts. There will be a general public event in Willits on July 18th where non-agriculture specific impacts will be addressed.
Topic: PG&E De-Energization and Wildfire Safety
For those that may not be aware, the majority of Mendocino County was added to the Tier 2 fire threat area where PG&E will be practicing planned de-energization this year if needed during the 2019 fire season as part of their wildfire safety operations. Mendocino County Farm Bureau has been working with our staff at California Farm Bureau Federation and PG&E’s Ag and Food Processing staff to discuss the addition of the Tier 2 mapping zones to the planned de-energization process and the concerns related to impacts to harvest season and agricultural processing operations (packing houses, wineries, mills, etc).
The de-energization process is one thing, but the re-energization process and related length of the power outages is the primary concern that has been expressed from those who operate wineries and other processing facilities. If you have electric dependent irrigation pumps or other equipment, this concern is also relevant.
In order to have a focused meeting on the de-energization process and other wildfire safety operations as related to agricultural farming and processing operations, staff from PG&E’s Ag and Food Processing unit will be presenting on these topics with an opportunity for Q/A.
Additional PG&E Information
PG&E is also planning a series of regional outreach meetings to discuss the de-energization/re-energization process and other wildfire safety concerns. The meeting for Mendocino/Lake/Colusa Counties is scheduled in Willits on July 18th at the Willits Community Center from 6-8 PM. The meeting schedule can be seen at the link below.
For more information, the link below has a fact sheet and a policies/procedures guide related to the power shut off process that we encourage all of you to read.
