Did you know that 8.3% of the US population (25.8 million people) have diabetes and another 79 million are pre-diabetic, costing over $218 BILLION per year? The average medical expenditure of those with diagnosed diabetes are 2.3 times higher than those without diabetes.
Why is diabetes so dangerous? Too much sugar in the blood can damage many parts of the body, including blood vessels and nerves. Serious health problems include blindness, kidney disease, heart disease, stroke, dental disease, skin complications, depression, decreased quality of life and amputations. The risk of death for people with diabetes is twice that of those of the same age without diabetes.
The good news is that up to 90% of Type II Diabetes is preventable with moderate lifestyle changes and there are several ways to control Diabetes and stay healthy.
