ABOUT US
Who Are We?
Founded in 1996 by a group of Latina breast cancer survivors and health care professionals, Nueva Vida prides itself on being the only independent survivor-driven cancer care organization for Latinas in the Mid-Atlantic region and one of the few in the nation. Nueva Vida’s mission is to inform, support and empower Latinas whose lives are affected by cancer, and to advocate for and facilitate the timely access to state of the art cancer care, including screening, diagnosis, treatment and care.
Who Do We Represent?
Nueva Vida represents underserved Latina Women of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Baltimore and Richmond, whose lives have been negatively impacted due to a diagnosis of cancer.
Who Do We Do?
Nueva Vida provides a continuum of culturally sensitive cancer support services for Latinas allowing them to join any of Nueva Vida’s programs at any stage of the illness. Nueva Vida’s programs are intended for Latinas with cancer, Latinas cancer survivors and their families.

Join Nueva Vida In the Fight Against Cancer
Come step, shake, and Zumba the day away with your family and friends at our First Annual Zumbathon® Fundraiser and Expo on September 17!
WHAT IS THE ZUMBATHON?
DANCE with 500+ attendees from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area!
DISCOVER new moves with Official Zumba® instructors, for 2 hours with a 30 minute break.
JOIN as an invidiual and gain access to the Zumba classes and resources at the event.
COMPETE for sponsored prizes if you register with at least 5 friends as a Zumba Team and win two airline tickets.
EXPLORE the Expo Hall, which will offer critical health tests on-site as well as important information from health providers for attendees.
FUNDRAISE with your Zumba Team to support Latinas with Cancer. The team that raises the most funds will receive an AMAIZING prize.

- US Latinas are 20% more likely to die of cancer than their peers.
- After nearly 15 years of work, Nueva Vida remains the only organization of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region
- The Zumbathon® will help the organization reach its awareness goal, along with an opportunity to celebrate the lives many Latinas in the DC area fighting cancer.
- Funds collected at the Zumbathon® will support services to almost 1000 Latinas!
WHY ZUMBA?
- Zumba is a unique exercise experience that combines traditional Latin dances with aerobics, allowing us to promote healthy living while embracing our heritage.
- At Nueva Vida, we recognize that mental health and appropriate exercise are key factors that play an important role in the recovery process for cancer patients and survivors.
- We strive to develop programs that will empower our clients to reach new potential during their cancer experience; allowing them to face their illness in a more positive manner and discover strengths that can be undermined due to the impact cancer has in diagnosed patients.
