Driving Directions 

Poorly managed anger, especially in children and teens, is often destructive. It is crucial that we helpchildren and teens effectively regulate their anger. By doing so, they will feel calmer, happier, bemore confident to handle challenges, and have better connections with others. Proven strategies andtools from mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, and relaxation therapies are provided to help childrenand teens identify anger signals and reactions in their minds and bodies and teach them how to trulycalm themselves down.

Workshop Objectives
At the end of this activity the learner will be able to
• State two crucial skills that children and teens need to manage their frustration and anger
• Identify at least 20 proven effective anger reduction strategies to immediately use with childrenand teens
• Explain how mindfulness can be integrated with cognitive behavior therapy for angermanagement in children and teens
• Coach parents, teachers, and other adults how to use the Calm, Firm, and Non-controllingapproach to help bypass and lower anger-driven emotional reactivity in children in teens

Presenter: Dr. Jeffrey Bernstein is a psychologist with over 28 years experience specializing in child, adolescent, couples, and family therapy. He completed his post-doctoral internship at the University of Pennsylvania Counseling Center and holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. He has appeared on the Today Show, Court TV, CBS-TV Eyewitness News Philadelphia, NBC10 Philadelphia, and public radio. Dr. Bernstein has authored five books,including “Mindfulness for Teen Worry,” “10 Days to a Less Defiant Child,” “10 Days to a Less Distracted Child,” “Liking the Child You Love,” and “Why Can’t You Read My Mind?” He has also published the “Letting Go of Anger Therapeutic Card Deck for Teens.”

Workshop Continuing Education Credits

Three (3) continuing education credits will be offered for PA Social Workers & Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, NBCC Counselors, and under Act 48.
NBCC: Foundations  Community Partnership (FCP) is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.
Psychologists: Foundations Community Partnership is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education to psychologists. FCP maintains responsibility for this program and content.
PA Social Workers: PA State Board accepts APA and NBCC approval for SW, MFT, andLP
Educators: Application has been approved by the PennsylvaniaDepartment of Education for three Act 48 Continuing Education Credits.

Foundations Community Partnership reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of a cancellation or postponement, FCP will refund any registration fees, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants.

• More than two weeks prior to the function - your choice of a full refund via check, credit for future workshop, or a future event registration.
• Less than two weeks, but more than three days prior to the function - full refund via credit towards future event registration.
• Three days or less prior to event - no refunds available. Sorry, there are no exceptions.
